So lets take a look at what an allergy is and what we can do to help you.

An allergy is a reaction the body has to a particular food or substance. Allergies are very very common now.

They're thought to affect more than 1 in 4 people at some point in their lives. They're particularly common in children. Some allergies go away as a child gets older, although many can be lifelong until they are reversed.

Adults can develop allergies to things they weren't previously allergic to. Having an allergy can be a nuisance and affect your everyday activities, but most allergic reactions are mild and can be largely kept under control.

Severe reactions can occasionally occur, but these are uncommon.

When you encounter something to which your'e allergic, your body makes histamine to protect you from the potentially dangerous substance. In some cases your body may overact and produce too much histamine-and this can end up creating migraines. The reaction may be delayed, occurring days after eating an allergenic food.

Think about whether there's anything your'e eating, drinking. breathing, touching, or otherwise exposed to that might be making your immune system go haywire. This can range from second hand smoke, food, pollen, to a new neighbor's dog.

If any migraines began only recently, pay special attention to anything with the potential to be allergenic that was introduced into your life shortly before your first episode. Once you identify all possible causes for an allergic reaction, try to cut them out and see if that eliminates your migraines.

Your intuition about what your'e sensitive too can be far more accurate than doctor's office testing, which is flawed. Make a point to listen to your body and come see us at the clinic for a full investigation on the Electro Acupuncture machine which combines kineisiology and muscle testing in one quick, effective and pain free investigative session to get to the root cause of your allergy.

Common Allergies

Substances that cause allergic reactions are called allergens. The more common allergens include:

  • grass and tree pollen – an allergy to these is known as hay fever (allergic rhinitis)
  • dust mites
  • animal dander (tiny flakes of skin or hair)
  • food – particularly nuts, fruit, shellfish, eggs and cows' milk, lactose, gluten, wheat
  • insect bites and stings
  • medication – including ibuprofen, aspirin and certain antibiotics
  • latex – used to make some gloves and condoms
  • mould – these can release small particles into the air that you can breathe in
  • household chemicals – including those in detergents, hair dyes, tooth pastes

Most of these allergens are generally harmless to people who aren't allergic to them.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction

Lets have a look at the symptoms of an allergic response and what can be done to alleviate them.

Allergic reactions usually happen quickly within a few minutes of exposure to an allergen.

They can cause:

  • sneezing
  • a runny or blocked nose
  • red, itchy, watery eyes
  • wheezing and coughing
  • a red, itchy rash
  • worsening of asthma or eczema symptoms

Most allergic reactions are mild, but occasionally a severe reaction called anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock can occur. This is a medical emergency and needs urgent treatment.

How to manage an allergy

In many cases, the most effective way of managing an allergy is to avoid the allergen that causes the reaction whenever possible.

For example, if you have a food allergy, you should check a food's ingredients list for allergens before eating it.

Is it an allergy, sensitivity or intolerance?

  • allergy – a reaction produced by the body's immune system when exposed to a normally harmless substance
  • sensitivity – the exaggeration of the normal effects of a substance; for example, the caffeine in a cup of coffee may cause extreme symptoms, such as palpitations and trembling
  • intolerance – where a substance causes unpleasant symptoms, such as diarrhoea, but doesn't involve the immune system; people with an intolerance to certain foods can typically eat a small amount without having any problems

If you have been diagnosed with an allergy, or suspect you have an allergy, sensitivity, or intolerance the Electro Acupuncture Machine can offer cutting edge investigation and information of natural herbals, homeopathics or Wavefront 3000 reversing energy signature protocols, to support your immune system to help manage the allergic condition you have.
